Residents in Saali village, Gomba District, have attracted growing attention after a newborn baby reportedly born holding a Catholic medal has become the focus of intense local devotion.
Since news of the birth spread, crowds from across Gomba District and neighbouring areas have continued to visit the village, describing the occurrence as a miracle and asserting that the child has divine significance.
Some devotees have publicly referred to the baby as Jesus Christ.
Visitors arriving at the site have been seen kneeling, praying fervently and presenting personal requests, driven by the belief that the infant has the power to answer prayers or change their fortunes.
One supporter of the Gomba Saza football team who visited the gathering explained his reasons for praying to the baby.
“Jesus, we ask you today because you were born here in Gomba, which means you are one of us,” said Robert Musasizi, kneeling in prayer.
“Gomba has gone many years without winning the Masaza Cup. We ask you to help us win every match ahead and finally lift the trophy. We also pray that, through you, we win five consecutive titles.”
Musasizi said his prayer reflected the deep frustration felt by local football fans over years of disappointment in the tournament.
“I could not fail to come here because this is a gift we have received,” he said. “We have stayed long without winning a trophy, but now that we have Jesus among us, I believe nothing will remain difficult. I trust that he will work on our issues and bring success to Gomba.”
Observers say the number of believers visiting the location continues to grow each day, with many openly expressing their faith and devotion.
However, reactions across the country have been mixed, with some regarding the event as a genuine spiritual occurrence and others questioning its authenticity and cautioning against uncritical acceptance.
As of today, neither government authorities nor religious leaders have issued official statements regarding the situation.
